Fumed silica core VIPs offer better long-term reliability and resistance to aging. Can vacuum insulation panels (VIPs) be cut or modified on site? +
No. Because VIPs rely on an airtight, pressurized envelope, they cannot be cut, drilled, or trimmed on site. Doing so will release the vacuum, causing the panel's thermal conductivity to rise to that of normal silica (approx. 0.020 W/m·K). All panels must be measured and manufactured to size before delivery.
