The microstructure features pore diameters averaging less than 20 nanometers, which is smaller than the mean free path of air molecules (approx. 70nm).

By confining air molecules within these nano-cavities, gas convection is completely eliminated, and solid-state conduction through the minimal contact points of the silica particles is drastically restricted. The result is a thermal conductivity curve that remains exceptionally flat even at temperatures reaching 800°C and above.
