Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIPs) represent the state-of-the-art in thermal insulation materials, achieving thermal conductivities ($\lambda$) as low as 0.0015 to 0.004 W/m·K. The longevity and reliability of these panels depend almost entirely on the performance of the enveloping VIP Gas Barrier Film. When the core material (such as fumed silica or fiberglass) is compressed under vacuum, the internal pressure drops to 0.1 to 1 mbar. Over time, atmospheric gases (mainly nitrogen, oxygen, and water vapor) attempt to permeate the panel shell.
Any increase in internal pressure dramatically raises thermal conductivity due to gas molecule conduction. A high-quality VIP barrier film must provide an extremely low Oxygen Transmission Rate (OTR < 0.01 cc/m²/day·atm) and Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR < 0.001 g/m²/day) to guarantee a service lifespan of up to 50 years. This requires advanced multi-layer nano-sputtering, metallization, and multi-layer co-extrusion technology.
