Skylights and overhead architectural glazing are subjected to the most demanding environments in any building envelopment design. Standard horizontal or angled surfaces receive up to 2.5 times more solar radiation during summer than vertical facades, leading to rapid solar heat gain. Conversely, during winter periods, standard double or triple glazing solutions suffer from intensified thermal convection loss. As air or argon inside standard IGUs heats up, it moves vertically, accelerating heat transfer bypass through convective loops.
Vacuum Insulated Glass (VIG) solves this physics limitation by replacing the gaseous gas-fill cavity with an ultra-high vacuum chamber ($10^{-4}$ Pa to $10^{-3}$ Pa). Without gaseous molecules, conduction and convection are physically eliminated within the space. Our tempered vacuum glass units reach a centerline U-value of $\le 0.4 \text{ W}/(\text{m}^2\cdot\text{K})$, providing insulation performance that rivals solid insulated wall envelopes while maintaining maximum light transmission.
Traditional triple-glazing performance drops by up to 40% when tilted horizontally. Vacuum Glass retains the exact same U-value regardless of the installation tilt angle (from 0° to 90°).
VIG cuts acoustic sound wave propagation by eliminating the medium (air) of sound. The unit provides weighted sound reduction indices ($R_w + C_{tr}$) exceeding 39 dB.
Achieve triple-glazing performance at a fraction of the thickness (typically under 12 mm total thickness), reducing structural frame load and installation costs.
Skylights represent overhead hazards, meaning glass specifications must prioritize safety and impact resistance against hail, wind load, and maintenance workers. Our factory manufactures fully tempered vacuum insulated glass using proprietary heating and cooling cycles that preserve the critical flat surface topology of the glass.
To prevent contact stress between the two panes under massive atmospheric pressure (which exerts approximately 10 tons per square meter on the glass surface), we distribute micro-sized support spacers (typically 0.3mm to 0.5mm diameter) at precise grid intervals. Our high-precision robotic sorting machinery ensures these spacers are visually unobtrusive while safely dispersing structural tension. In high-safety zones, we laminate the internal pane of the VIG unit, ensuring that even under severe impact, structural integrity remains fully intact.

Customized SolutionsCorporate Profile
Zerothermo Technology Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CBVAC Group and a national high-tech enterprise, is headquartered in the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area with its production base located in Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. This facility stands as one of China's largest comprehensive production centers for vacuum technology application products.
Backed by massive R&D investments from the CBVAC parent group, Zerothermo has successfully industrialized vacuum thermal insulation materials and glass technologies. We are dedicated to providing ultra-efficiency thermal insulation solutions for high-performance buildings, low-carbon cold chains, and high-temperature industrial sectors.
Special sizes (beyond the range of ANSI/ASME/DIN and other standards) are produced according to customers' drawings or technical parameters.
Square, oval or other special shaped flanges. Oversize/small diameter: such as diameter over 60 inches or micro precision flanges.
High-vacuum sealing flanges and custom connection parts built to sustain atmospheric isolation for complex machinery.
Industrial Evolution
The development of Vacuum Insulated Glass is moving toward greater safety, thinner outer layers, and automated high-yield manufacturing. As a pioneering manufacturer of Vacuum Glass for Skylights in China, Zerothermo has developed a clear technological transition plan aimed at maintaining industry leadership:
Transitioning from traditional high-temperature glass solder seals (which degrade glass tempering strength) to low-temperature metal alloy sealing. This keeps tempered glass properties fully intact for maximum hail impact safety in skylights.
Integrating advanced, high-absorption metal alloys inside the glass perimeter edge seal to absorb residual moisture and trace gases over decades. This sustains an internal vacuum pressure of $10^{-4}$ Pa for a guaranteed service life of over 30 years.
Laminating smart electrochromic and photovoltaic thin films directly onto the exterior pane of tempered vacuum glass. The result is a smart skylight that changes tint dynamically to optimize solar heat gain (SHGC) while generating clean power.

Global Trade & Standards
Architectural firms, facade engineering consultants, and commercial real estate developers specify Vacuum Insulated Glass for skylights based on key performance parameters. Below is our typical specification table for project planning:
| Parameter | Tempered VIG Specification | Standard IGU (Air Filled) | Engineering Advantage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nominal Thickness | 8.3 mm – 12.3 mm | 24 mm – 32 mm | Reduces structural frame profile and overall weight load. |
| Center-of-Glass U-Value | $\le 0.4 \text{ W}/(\text{m}^2\cdot\text{K})$ | $1.2 – 2.8 \text{ W}/(\text{m}^2\cdot\text{K})$ | Reduces energy loss by up to 75% through skylight openings. |
| Sound Transmission Loss | $R_w \ge 39 \text{ dB}$ | $R_w \approx 30 \text{ dB}$ | Provides excellent noise isolation for urban buildings and airport zones. |
| Condensation Temperature | No condensation down to -50°C | Typically condenses at -5°C | Maintains clarity and eliminates internal water dripping hazards. |

Expert Q&A
Traditional triple glazing loses structural efficiency and thermal isolation capacity when installed at a tilt or angle due to natural gas convection currents inside the chamber. Because VIG relies on a vacuum, there is no air inside to circulate. It maintains the exact same U-value whether installed horizontally, at a tilt, or vertically.
Zerothermo's Vacuum Glass is manufactured using fully tempered glass plates, which are up to 5 times stronger than annealed glass. Under heavy loads, the atmospheric pressure holds the glass structure tight against a grid of precision support spacers, distributing loads across the face of the panels.
Our VIG units use a metal alloy perimeter edge seal and integrated internal gas getters to maintain vacuum stability. These getters absorb trace gas molecules that may outgas over time, giving the system an expected operational lifespan of over 30 years with minimal U-value degradation.
Because the unit requires a hermetic edge seal and is built under vacuum conditions, tempered VIG cannot be cut, drilled, or altered on-site. All sizing, shaping, hole drilling, and lamination options must be specified during the design phase and completed at our manufacturing base.
