How We Achieve Leading-Edge Thermal Barriers

The core physics of Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIPs) lies in the elimination of convective and gaseous conductive heat transfer paths. By evacuating the internal volume of the panel down to a low-pressure state (typically between 0.1 to 10 mbar) and sealing it with an ultra-low gas permeation envelope, we reduce the mean free path of gas molecules. This limits their ability to transfer energy within the panel core.

We work with two main core materials depending on the application requirements:

  • Fumed Silica Core: Made of amorphous synthetic silica. Fumed silica features extremely small pores (around 10-20 nanometers), allowing it to maintain a low thermal conductivity of roughly 0.004 - 0.006 W/m·K even if the vacuum degrades over time. It has a service life of up to 50 years, making it the industry standard for architecture, refrigerators, and cold-chain containers.
  • Fiberglass Core: Made of fine glass fibers. Glass fiber VIPs reach an exceptionally low initial thermal conductivity of 0.0015 - 0.0025 W/m·K under high vacuum. However, they require highly reliable barrier envelopes, as their performance is more sensitive to vacuum loss. This core type is ideal for applications with shorter design lifespans or high-performance requirements, such as vaccine shipping boxes or laboratory freezers.

For high-temperature applications up to 1000°C, we utilize nano-microporous structures without vacuum. These barriers rely on pressed silica powder mixed with opacifiers to minimize radiative heat transfer, making them highly effective for EV battery packs, kiln structures, and fire doors.
