High-performance Internal Insulation Boards—especially those incorporating Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIPs) and Nano-Microporous blankets—redefine these thermal dynamics by leveraging the physics of reduced atmospheric pressure and nanoscale pore structures.
The thermal conductivity ($\lambda$-value) of a material depends on three factors: solid conduction, radiative transmission, and gaseous convection. Standard open-cell materials permit internal gaseous conduction. By introducing a core of fumed silica or micro-fine fiberglass, evacuating the internal air to absolute pressures below 0.1 Pa, and sealing it with high-barrier films, gaseous conduction is eliminated. This drops thermal conductivity to 0.004 W/m·K to 0.008 W/m·K—up to ten times more effective than conventional options. This allows projects to meet demanding insulation criteria at a fraction of standard installation thicknesses.

A1: No. VIPs rely on a sealed high-vacuum core. Any cutting, drilling, or deep surface scoring on-site will puncture the outer barrier film, releasing the vacuum and increasing thermal conductivity back to the level of ambient atmospheric cores (approx. 0.020 W/m·K). All dimensional modifications must be pre-planned and custom-fabricated at our factory.
A2: When properly installed within building walls, cold chain systems, or appliance shells, fumed silica VIPs generally have an service life of 30 to 50 years. Fumed silica has natural moisture-adsorbing characteristics that help limit degradation of the vacuum over time.
A3: To minimize thermal bridging, panels should be placed in a tightly fit, staggered double-layer configuration, or combined with specialized joint tapes. Complex perimeter junctions near windows or structural pillars can be supported with matching thicknesses of microporous aerogel blankets.
