View DetailsIn modern engineering, the management of ultra-low thermal environments has transitioned from traditional bulk insulation methods to advanced nanomaterial vacuum systems. Cryogenic storage, operating at temperatures ranging from -150°C to near absolute zero (-273.15°C), demands an insulation solution that drastically restricts convective, conductive, and radiative heat transfers. Zerothermo Technology provides high-efficiency Custom Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIPs) engineered for the complex dynamics of modern industrial cryogenic environments.
Conventional insulation materials, such as expanded polystyrene (EPS) or polyurethane (PU), rely on trapped gas pockets within a polymer matrix to impede thermal conduction. However, at cryogenic scale, gas molecules within these cells still transfer heat via kinetic collisions. The thermal conductivity (λ) of air is approximately 0.026 W/m·K. To lower this threshold, vacuum insulation panels eliminate the gaseous medium entirely.
A VIP comprises a microporous core material (typically fumed silica or fiberglass) enveloped in a multi-layered gas-barrier laminate. By evacuating internal gas down to pressures of 10-3 to 1 mbar, the mean free path of remaining gas molecules exceeds the pore size of the core material (known as the Knudsen effect). This eliminates gas conduction. Consequently, a customized fumed silica VIP achieves an ultra-low thermal conductivity of ≤ 0.004 W/m·K, providing up to ten times the thermal resistance of traditional insulation of equivalent thickness.
The global demand for high-end cryogenic storage solutions is expanding across several critical sectors:
Standard flat VIPs are insufficient when integrating thermal barriers into complex industrial designs. Curved cylinders, pipeline valves, battery boxes, and small medical cooler containers require complex geometries. Customizing VIPs involves:
